Transcript of A Presentation on Anabolic Steroids Physiology of Use Normally, many of the hormones found in anabolic steroids are naturally produced in the testes, the ovaries and the adrenaline cortex, but their effects are mediated by the androgen receptor and the angrogens produced naturally are very small compared to synthetic androgens found in an anabolic steroid.
There is constant pressure for athletes to perform at their maximum at the proffessional level, and sometimes that is not seen as good enough. This is where many turn to sports performance enhancers, most commonly, anabolic steroids. In recent times, steroids have been banned from almost all professional sports and from all of the olympic games, but this doesn't stop competitors from trying to dope.
When an athlete is caught doping during or after a sporting event, he or she is almost always disqualified and is shamed by the public in the media. In specific, the presentation's focus consists of; A The physiology of anabolic steroids when administered, B The primary as well as adverse affects these drugs have, and how they can be treated, and finally C The social complications of the use of anabolic steroids.
First synthesized in the 's and used as a "vitamin for men", through modern day research we now have discovered many but not all the risks and biological complications taking anabolic steroids can cause.
All in all, the pros definitely don't outweigh the con's. The result in promoted protein synthesis in the body causes muscle tissue to regenerate quicker when broken down during exercise, making the process of building muscle much faster. While this is obviously almost always why these drugs are taken, side effects can include anything from: Anabolic steroids mimic male sex hormones known as androgens. When a anabolic steroid is administered either orally or via injection, they enter the bloodstream, having an effect on all kinds of body cells.
Protein synthesis is promoted in cells that the androgen's bind to the cell's nucleus. They also block a hormone called cortisol from having its normal effecton muscle tissue, so that muscle that was already present or built assuming continued use , breaks down at a slower rate than normal.
We've seen this recently with former cyclist Lance Armstrong.
