Sacroiliac Joint (SI Joint) Steroid Injection - Wake Spine
I have had epidurals, facet joint injections, nerve blocks and RFA's but have never had the sacroiliac joint injections. I have a lot of low back pain due to degeneration of L5-S1, I have arthritis in the facet joints as well and a bulge in L3-L4. None of these procedures have given much relief so I was wondering about the sacroiliac joints. My pain tends to be mostly localized in the lower back and upper buttock area. Anybody have these sacroiliac joint injections and had good relief?
I have had several different types of injections as well like you I have had problems with my L4-L5 and L5-S1. I have unfortunately had five surgeries for fusions and don't recommend that it was the biggest mistake I ever made some people have to but if you can avoid it please do.
These injections helped me for a long time until I made the mistake and changed my doctor. The injections are painful I won't lie to you but some doctors most I imagine will sedate you some before they do them so it isn't too bad and you don't remember much, if anything depending on what they use to sedate you with.
Hope this helps you some and good luck, marjorie zych. I had a surgeon tell me he would do a fusion and I respectfully declined!! I think I would like to try them the sacroiliac joint injections. RFA's are painful and I lived through that! Are they worse than the RFA's? Unfortunately I do remember everything in spite of sedation.
Whatever dose of Versed they give me doesn't work as far as the amnesic effect. It relaxes me but I remember everything! Thanks for the info! It really sucks to have this condition and no one understands unless they live with it too. I really wish my husband could be more understanding sometimes but is just not in his nature. Everyone on this site seems very supportive though and it is good to talk to people who understand and have been there. It is no worse for these injections.
I am not surprised about the Versed it did the same to me too, sometimes they don't give enough of it. If you tolerated the other injections you will make it through these. I am soooo glad to hear you turned down the surgery for now some doctors just cut and go and you are the one suffering in the mean time. Sometimes it is necessary yes but a lot of times it can be avoided.
I am glad you are getting some support from this site it can be very helpful and most of the people are very willing to help out. I am sorry your husband is not as supportive as you would like but like you said if you haven't been there it is hard to understand sometimes.
I have been there so I do know what you are going through so check in anytime. I hope you do better with the SI injections take care and good luck, marjorie zych. I had the injections twice and they didn't work at all. My pain management doctor is now going to try a nerve block procedure. I looked into nerve blocks and my doctor didn't give my any preliminary info regarding them so I am going to call the office tomorrow and ask that they e-mail or mail me info regarding what they are intending on doing because as I understand it there are several different types of nerve blocks and I want to know how they work, the possible side effects.
I'm not sure, however, what to ask when I phone the doctor's office so I don't make a series of visits to different doctors only to find the same attitude in these doctors as well. I am not abusing my meds and I discussed this with my friend the pharmacist.
She said she sees a lot of people who are addicted coming to the pharmacy trying all kinds of tricks to get the pain med they are addicted to and she sees no evidence of that in me.
I was in so much pain before I got put on these meds and I hope they do find something else that works as well but if they take me off these meds and I go back to the way I was, I will be bed ridden and have to have home health care on a permanent basis and I'm only 58 years old. Any suggestions on the best way to handle this. It helped after 1 week the "electrical shock" pain but the dull pain is a constant.
Sitting, standing up, walking sucks!! I see the doc this next week. I have spasms at the waistline. Standing up from a sitting position is SLOW! I have had several nerve blocks and many many surgeries, last one being last year, and the blocks never helped. I have a degenerative spine and my primary doctor is referring me to his partner for the injection.
