It is important to realize that many vapes are marketed as having quartz or ceramic heating elements.
This is the case in some new vapes, but many still have exposed wire wrapped around a ceramic or quartz core. Vapes like this are still going to leech metal contaminants into the inhaled vapor. The main two chemicals in CBD e-liquid are propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin.
Users with sensitivities to either of these chemicals will notice sinus irritation, nausea or a headache upon use. Individuals with more severe allergies can break out in hives, develop swelling or have difficulty breathing. Lucky for us, both chemicals are so ubiquitous in our everyday lives that it would be nearly impossible to not realize you have an allergy to one of them before you started vaping.
Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin are common ingredients in smoke machine vapor, cosmetics, hair products, food, drinks, cigarettes, medicine and many more products.
Vegetable glycerin allergy is very rare and is more likely caused by an allergy to the plant oil the vegetable glycerin was derived from. Propylene glycol allergies on the other hand are much more common, but entirely avoidable. As well, pure vegetable glycerin is difficult to use with CBD because it tends to precipitate out of the liquid into crystals.
Polyethylene glycol can be added to the vegetable glycerin to allow more CBD to dissolve into the liquid; however, it is extremely bitter and harsh. If quick relief is a concern, high-CBD hemp strains can be smoked or concentrated CBD isolates can be vaporized out of a more traditional water pipe. The disadvantage to this is it is impossible to do in public without looking like an illicit drug user. A man exhales vapor after using a tank-style vaporizer while using a laptop. Preliminary research suggests vaping is safer than smoking cigarettes, but may still present some health risks, especially for nonsmokers who are considering vaping CBD.
Through a process known as dabbing, a quartz dish is attached to the stem of a glass water pipe and heated up usually with a blowtorch or heating coil. CBD isolate is placed in the quartz dish and vaporized for the user to inhale. This form of consumption is vastly healthier, as the only chemical that the CBD vapor can be contaminated with is water.
Quartz is and inert and durable material. While there may be some health concerns for non-smokers interested in vaping CBD, the exposure to some contaminants is less compared to traditional forms of smoking. Whether or not vaping is right for you, CBD is always an option. With the information laid out here, you should be able to make a more informed and safe decision about how to consume your CBD.
It is important to continue doing more research. Read reviews, watch YouTube videos, read Reddit posts, join a Facebook group and search for more information about whatever product you are interested in before you buy it.
Chances are someone else already laid out everything you need to know about any given product. Until more studies into the long-term effects of vaping are completed and regulations catch up with new technology, it is probably best for non-smokers to avoid vaping entirely. The technology is too new to say definitively that it is safe, especially for sensitive individuals and those with compromised immune systems. The market is getting saturated with many different CBD brands. Leif Hayman is a cannabis advocate, environmentalist, photographer, and freelance journalist from Houston, Texas.
Hell, there are compounds found within cannabis that are toxic at certain temps. I call BS until I see it done at temps people vape at. I am in a unique position as I produce vape products and own a vape business.. Valid research takes a lot of time and controls, we deal with controllers and the FDA on a regular basis and I am pretty sure a guy in his garage is unable to say very much about any of this with any authority..
I do this daily and am always hitting reference materials to figure out just what I am reading…. Just gets old, produces undue concern and infringes on people right to do what they want without harming others.. Even those that have digital nails etc.
And since were talking about a thunning agent, were talking about pens. Again MOST burn a lot hotter than ! I stick to my guns and await a better study. I can see how at you still have the additives but at higher temps?
Tell me what happens to that shit when its burned at a more realistic temp. Regardless I dont use carts because they have no power. Give me LR please! What is a digital nail? Lipids are also used in asthma medications to transport the meds.
Lipids are not automatically bad and that is another misconception about canna extractions as well. Oh these type of articles are like hearing that feeding your pet rat 1oz of sodium cyclamate a day causes cancer… This is later backed up with eating 10lbs of bacon a day is bad for you….
VG you will find is pretty much inert in these studies until exceedingly high temps are encountered far above normal vape temps.. While I agree that avoiding known carcinogens is a good idea, this type of article does not help anyone IMHO.. I would be far far more concerned with what the growers are inducing while growing…..
Grouping the 3 compounds together Vegetable glycerin, Propylene Glycol and polyethylene glycol PEG might just be irresponsible in much the same way that grouping texting, drinking and smoking pot while driving is dangerous…. Our state, for one, tests all dispensary products and ensures there is no presence of molds and pesticides. It is highly doubtful that the cannabis industry is doing to us what the tobacco industry did to smokers. For many of us the benefit of vaping OIL is that there is no odor associated with our use of this medication.
I definitely agree with you. My understanding is that the vegetable glycerin is the only one of the three that is safe. PG Propylene Glycol is safe. Everything from Asthma inhalers to Ice cream and beyond.
Very good point—it seems to be the degree of heating that can yield carcinogens when heating cannabis oil that is problematic. PG is also used in ice cream, flavor extracts, ecig eJuice, and asthma inhalers. I vaped almost 5 years to break a 38 year cigarette addiction. I have both asthma and Crogns.
There is no need to cut your cannabis oil with any substance when vaping it. If you are using basic pens and carts and crappy stuff like that you do or you are wasting a lot.
Its too viscous to wick without burning and clogging. But if you use good wicks and make your own coils on temp devices then no, you dont need thinners. I use concentrates for my Crohns disease every day for the last two years. I went 6 months and two days between my two most recent flares. With buds I was only able to go weeks between flares. I smoke sometimes, I vape with oil cartridges and I also use a Pax.
It heats up the flower and then you take a hit. Is this considering better than the oils?? I use coconut oil its really good i decarb equal amounts of shatter, wax, with egual amounts of coconut oil. It works perfect also it is good for asthma patients.
PEG was terrible at most temperature. Your best bet is to vape your flower in a quality vaporizer with temperature control settings. Stick to dry herb. PG propylene glycol is used in asthma inhalers, ice cream, animal safe antifreeze flavor extracts, and hundreds of other ways.
I responded to your other comment below, but in addition to vaporizing dried herb, you can also use your vaporizer with lavender, eucalyptus, or a variety of other aroma therapy plants.
Have you ever considered cannabis tea? I often brew it from my left-over herb from making edibles, but you can just do the same with decarbed cannabis, rather than using the left-over decarb from your canna-oil.
The affects from the tea wear off sooner than edibles. Had a Volcano but the buttons broken to frequently. Although the company will repair them whether under warrenty or not. I find the plenty is excellent. I agree as long as you know if the cannabis is grown organically , no pesticides or growth additives used! You can buy from farms directly in CA , my favorite is Phenix Cannabis.
