In other words, a balanced mixture of medication and a psychological approach, monitoring and gradually lowering the pharmaceutical intake. Healthcare professionals usually prescribe antidepressants to treat this mood disorder. All of these medications attempt to treat depression from a chemical point of view.

The goal is to create create a sustainable chemical balance that reduces depression symptoms. Research shows that psychotherapy can be a very helpful form of treatment when used hand-in-hand with medication or individually. This includes finding specific life-changing traumas such as the sudden death of a loved one or a violent trauma , identifying distorted thinking patterns, and exposing behavior patterns that create negative thoughts.

The biggest problem with currently accepted treatments is that they are not effective for all cases. Recent studies suggest that only about 20 out of people that take antidepressants see improvement in their symptoms in the first six to eight weeks of treatment.

Some common side effects of antidepressant medications include: And, given the fact that medicinal hemp extracts are going through a renaissance, many people are turning to CBD to help alleviate the symptoms associated with clinical depression. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a natural compound found in the hemp plant. Other examples of plants that produce cannabinoids include black pepper, echinacea, cacao, and black truffles. Cannabinoids are part of the endocannabinoid system.

Compounds like CBD help regulate basic functions such as sleeping, eating, and the perception of pain. For that reason, pure CBD oil from hemp may still contain up to 0. This is 33 times less the amount required to produce any psychoactive effects. This has sparked major interest in cannabidiol, which has left many people wondering how to use CBD for depression. CBD extract can be used to reduce chronic pain, insomnia, and other symptoms that characterize depression.

Hemp and its derivatives have exhibited promising results when treating a variety of symptoms, including stress and chronic pain, which has encouraged those suffering from depression to turn to CBD oil for support. Much research still needs to be carried out on CBD for depression and on how CBD interacts with Major Depressive Disorders, although its safety profile has been well-documented over the last few years. Recent studies of animal models using CBD for depression have yielded promising results.

There is not one root cause of depression and for many people multiple issues can combine to form a depression. CBD oil is one of the main compounds found in the cannabis plant.

In recent years, it has grown in popularity thanks to significant numbers of studies that indicate many health benefits including the treatment of depression and other physical ailments. Many studies indicate the CBD capsules may be a potent option in alleviating the symptoms of depression and potentially treating it. There are many different reasons that CBD may hold potential in treating depression and assisting those who are suffering.

The endocannabinoid system , or ECS for short, plays a key role in mitigating the effects of depression. It is responsible for many different aspects of neurotransmission, neuroendocrine, and inflammatory processes. In a paper published in Molecular Medicine Reports , each of these processes becomes damaged in those with depression. CBD is known to boost the functioning of the endocannabinoid system.

With more endocannabinoids present, the ECS can function at an optimal level. Because the ECS exhibits significant effects on the processes that are damaged in patients that suffer from depression, it is possible to conclude that CBD holds potential in treating depression. A review published in Behavior Pharmacology examined the signalling capabilities of the endocannabinoid system in patients who were depressed against those that were healthy.

It found that those that were depressed showed a type of impairment in the functioning of their endocannabinoid systems. There is also significant evidence to suggest that one of the main receptors in the endocannabinoid system, the CB1 receptor, plays a significant role in depression.

In the same review from Behavior Pharmacology , the authors examined studies in which the CB1 receptor in the endocannabinoid system was blocked. They found that by blocking this receptor, patients exhibited symptoms that were similar to depression including a reduction in appetite, increased anxiety, and sensitivity to stress.

The similarities between the symptoms resulting from a blockage of the CB1 receptor and depression symptoms lead the authors of the paper to conclude that enhancement of the endocannabinoid system may present a potential form of treatment for depression.

CBD is known to boost the functioning of the endocannabinoid system, which makes it a perfect option for those suffering from depression. Another study examined the ways in which slight genetic defects in the CB1 receptor could impact the susceptibility to mood disorders such as depression and anxiety. It discovered that those patients that exhibited slight genetic alterations in the CB1 receptor were more susceptible to developing a mood disorder.

There is clear evidence to suggest that dysfunction in one of the primary receptors of the endocannabinoid system lead to depression.

While CB1 receptors are an important part of the depression equation, other factors may also play a role. One of the key causes of depression can be the stress that comes from daily life. Acute or chronic stress can many times lead to both depression and anxiety. A study in the British Journal of Pharmacology discovered that CBD may reduce the typical responses to stress in rats.

Scientists conducting the study subjected rats to various stressful experiences including an elevated maze test, an animal model for testing stress, and periods of restraint. Researchers examined the rats responses to these stressful events. One group of rats received CBD while another received a placebo. The researchers discovered that the stress responses of the rats that received CBD were significantly lower than the rats that did not.

This lead them to conclude that CBD may have the potential to reduce general stress responses. Is Cannabidiol the Answer for Disorders of Motivation? They concluded after examining multiple studies that the potential of CBD to reduce stress could lead to a reduction in depression symptoms. Another way that CBD holds promise in helping those with depression is the mechanism through which it promotes hippocampal neurogenesis. Hippocampal neurogenesis is the growth of new neurons within the hippocampus of the brain.

A study published in Neuropsychopharmacology looked at the ways in which increasing adult hippocampal neurogenesis could alter the effects of both anxiety and depression. They found that by increasing the amount of hippocampal neurogenesis, symptoms of anxiety and depression were reduced. In a study where two groups of mice were exposed to constant and repeated stressors, the group of mice that received CBD showed marked decreases in both depressive and anxiolytic symptoms and also experienced hippocampal neurogenesis.

A review of all the research surrounding hippocampal neurogenesis and cannabinoids came to the conclusion that the endocannabinoid system and its receptors play a major role in triggering neurogenesis. I also have been curious about the product, but there are lots of sellers on Amazon, but I hate to purchase a supplement that I don't know anything about the seller.

Most of them you can find some pretty good lists of sellers that have good reputations. If you could give a brand name that you used and liked, I would appreciate it. If that is something that needs to be a PM, that will be fine. Liked by Gail, Volunteer Mentor. I started on Zoloft, then celexa, then Effexor.

Finally my primary doctor thought it could be the Effexor since that is one of the side effects. So we decided that I would wean off the Effexor and try Wellbutrin instead. After 3 days of no Effexor the withdrawals seemed to hit me.

Headaches, nausea, extremely emotional, and bad dizziness. I had an important event to go to on day 3 of no Effexor so I took a low dose I felt decent for a couple days then boom, the withdrawal symptoms came on fully again.

My daughter mentioned the CBD oil which I was totally against at first but after doing a lot of research I am now quite interested in it. I am not positive if I suffer from depression or anxiety. All I know is that I tend to be extremely emotional and have anger fits easily and often. The anti-depressants did help somewhat. My husband will definitely agree!! I live in California where Marijuana is legal. You may need a Marijuana prescription depending on the state you live in.

You can Google the brand name and find out about it. Liked by Jim, Volunteer Mentor , kindred1. I think you need to let your doctor know what is going on with you first. Gail B Volunteer Mentor. The psychotropics turn me psycho. I read about addictions and have been through thus…I went off cold turkey with pain medication, antidepressants, anti psychotics, anti anxiety…I do not care to go through anything like that again. If I can get something stronger than an OTC I only want a low dose and do not want to go through what I did in again. This is where I am currently. Maybe my pain is not as severe as pain is for others.

I do know what withdrawal is like and…I have had a good life all in all. I endeavor to be content and learn what I can. I do know what does not work for me. Liked by Gail, Volunteer Mentor , jfsherley. However, if I find myself needing to go back on the meds I will taper off much slower when it comes time to quit them. I will not get on my soapbox, but I would much prefer being addicted to marijuana as there have never been any scientific studies that prove a physical addiction to marijuana as opposed to opiates.

Maybe a psychological dependence, but two very different animals. Liked by Gail, Volunteer Mentor , lalyfa , becsbuddy.
